EL OJO DEL LAGO

Jalisco's Leading English Language Publication
ajijic 2

Now considered the top English-language monthly in Mexico, the publication was founded in 1983, as an adjunct to its parent company, Coldwell Banker Chapala Realty. Its founder, Richard Tingen, was an old Lakeside hand, having first come to Mexico in the seventies.

Today, the business end of the newspaper is handled by his son, David Tingen, a graduate of the Panamerican University of Guadalajara. David holds a degree in Marketing and Business Administration, and under his stewardship, El Ojo del Lago has greatly increased its number of pages, as well as the amount of advertising.

The editor of the paper is Victoria Schmidt, she came to Mexico with her husband, in 2007. She is a graduate of Moorhead State University, Minnesota and graduated Cum Laude with a BA degree in Radio, Television and Film.

Over the past decade, the newspaper has grown from 28 to 108 pages, and has run over 2,000 articles, profiles and poems--most of which had to do with Mexico or were Hispanic-related. The corps of our contributors has also grown greatly, with many of our writers sending in material from other parts of Mexico, as well as from as far away as Europe.

Today, El Ojo del Lago is something of an institution, and as the Lakesides population continues to climb, we hope the paper grows with it, both in terms of quantity as well as quality.
